The Córdoba City Council has formalized a collaboration agreement with the Louvre Museum for the loan of two sculptures of great archaeological importance. These works will be central to the exhibition Roman Córdoba. The Hidden City, which will open at the Vimcorsa hall and run from November 5, 2026, to February 7, 2027.
The pieces traveling from Paris are a bust of Germanicus and a statue of Heracles, both from the Roman era and considered highlights of the upcoming display. The exhibition, promoted by the Delegation of Culture and Historical Heritage, aims to explore the evolution of Corduba from its Turdetanian origins to its consolidation as one of the main cities of Roman Baetica.
A team from the University of Córdoba, coordinated by a professor, will curate the exhibition. The display will combine original artifacts with innovative technologies, immersive audiovisuals, and specialized conferences to bring the profound Roman legacy in the Andalusian city closer to the public.
The Cordoban council anticipates that this exhibition will become a major cultural attraction, estimating an attendance of around 50,000 visitors. This figure would significantly surpass that of other similar exhibitions previously held at Vimcorsa, such as Córdoba, reflection of Rome (2012) with 16,926 visitors or Change of Era, Córdoba and the Christian Mediterranean (2022) with 18,840 visits.
The event is expected to generate a positive economic impact on sectors such as hospitality, catering, and local commerce, with an estimated percentage of tourist visitors requiring accommodation. Furthermore, collaboration with internationally renowned institutions like the Louvre will strengthen Córdoba's image as a cultural and artistic destination, facilitating the arrival of new events and improving its position in tourist circuits.
The agreement stipulates that the City Council will cover the transportation costs of the artworks, both to and from Paris, as well as the contracting of an 'nail-to-nail' insurance policy. It will also bear the travel, accommodation, and subsistence expenses for the representative designated by the French museum to supervise the conservation of the pieces during the installation and dismantling.
