The Córdoba City Council, through its Culture Delegation, is finalizing the terms for a new 100,000 euro subsidy line, aimed at preserving the city's traditional summer cinemas.
Córdoba's mayor, José María Bellido, confirmed that these aids are essential for the survival of these cultural spaces, whose continuity has been jeopardized without public support. This initiative marks the first time the City Council grants direct assistance to this activity, beyond existing agreements for space allocation.

"It has been shown that without public collaboration, it is impossible for them to be maintained."
The necessity of these subsidies became evident after Antonio Amil, manager of the Fuenseca and Delicias cinemas, announced they would not open this summer. Amil, who took over management in 2023 after the death of Martín Cañuelo, stated that current economic conditions make the operation of these cinemas unsustainable.
“
"After reviewing the two years we have been operating, the situation is unsustainable."
For his part, José María Casado, head of the Coliseo de San Andrés, shares concerns about the difficult economic situation. Although his goal is to cover expenses, he acknowledges that the business is not profitable and that maintenance, especially during winter, is costly due to rain damage and lack of activity.

"We settle for covering expenses, but as a business, it's a ruin. Maintenance is costly, especially in winter, when the cinema suffers deterioration from rain and lack of activity."
