With the arrival of the Feria de Córdoba, interest in learning to dance Sevillanas soars in the city. Dance schools are adapting to this growing demand, offering special programs to immerse students in the tradition of this dance, deeply rooted in local festivities.
An example of this preparation is the Escuela de Danza y Artes Escénicas de Córdoba (Edaec), located in Poniente Sur, which has been training dancers for over 13 years. This center, covering various dance disciplines, has noticed a significant increase in enrollment for its Sevillanas courses as the Feria approaches.
“"People demand Sevillanas more as the Feria approaches."
Given this surge, the academy has bolstered its offerings with intensive courses designed for all ages. The teaching methodology focuses on progressive learning, starting with basic movements like wrist play and footwork, then incorporating arm movements.
The school's management highlights that, although many students arrive with the perception that Sevillanas is a simple dance, the reality is that it involves complex steps. However, the adaptation of teaching and the positive atmosphere created in classes result in a rewarding experience for participants.
In addition to technical learning, practicing Sevillanas and other dances offers benefits such as improved memory, coordination, and the promotion of physical exercise and body expression. These intensive courses, costing less than 50 euros, aim to make training accessible to a broad audience.
“"It is important to do it with a professional, since there are variations that, if not taught by a dance pedagogue, will not be learned correctly."
Academies are not limited to teaching but also organize complementary events. Edaec, for example, is preparing an event called Feria por Sevillanas for May 16 at Sala Ritmo, featuring live music and a 10-euro entrance fee, aiming to offer a space for preparation and enjoyment for the people of Córdoba.
