Córdoba CF's victory against Zaragoza not only provided three crucial points for the team's virtual permanence but also activated a key contractual clause for Carlos Albarrán. The 32-year-old player from Badalona met the sporting requirements that guarantee his continuity with the 'blanquiverde' club for another season.
As previously reported, Albarrán needed to play 25 official matches this season, exceeding 45 minutes of participation in each. Despite having played 26 games, totaling 2,046 minutes, his league debut against Sporting, with only 5 minutes on the field, did not count towards the renewal. Nevertheless, the full-back has surpassed the necessary threshold to extend his contract.
Albarrán has become one of the most beloved players at El Arcángel, a reputation he has earned through hard work to be one of the leaders in Córdoba's resurgence from Primera Federación to Segunda División.
Pending official confirmation from the club, Albarrán is consolidating his position as a fundamental part of coach Iván Ania's plans. Although the current campaign has shown some inconsistency, his contribution was decisive in Córdoba's promotion to Segunda División during his first stint with the team.
In his first professional season, Albarrán started 35 matches, standing out for his offensive capability and defensive solidity on the right flank. He recorded 4 goals and 5 assists, including the winning goal against Ponferradina in the play-off semifinals that paved the way to Segunda División.
In the previous campaign, despite competition from Carlos Isaac, he participated in 36 matches (33 as a starter), scoring 4 goals and providing one assist in 2,953 minutes. This season, although he has not scored, he has been the seventh most active player in the squad and one of the captains, reaching 100 appearances as a Córdoba player in the draw against Mirandés.
