The Professional Association of Prison Officials (APFP) has reported a new aggression incident at the Cordoba prison. The events took place around 8:15 PM on Wednesday when officers responded to a fight alert in a module.
Upon arrival, they found an inmate on the ground. While attempting to revive him, his cellmate, who had been sent to the isolation module, reacted violently and attacked the officers with sharp objects, described as blades. Fortunately, the staff did not suffer serious injuries, although the aggressor hurled insults before being taken to a hospital for his injuries.
The APFP suggests the inmate showed signs of mental alteration and had apparently serious facial injuries. The association uses this event to demand better inmate classification, noting the increase in inmates with mental disorders and the lack of resources to detect certain psychotropic substances.
Furthermore, the union criticizes the center's Staffing Plan (RPT), calling it "scarce and deficient" and denouncing a critical shortage of healthcare personnel and internal surveillance staff. They point out that management attempts to compensate for staff shortages through internal transfers, resulting in positions that should require five officers being covered by only two or three.
Among their long-standing demands, the APFP reiterates the request for taser guns for high-risk situations and salary parity with officers in Catalonia and the Basque Country.
