The asphalt of the A-4 turned into a metal trap for nine people on Tuesday afternoon. What was expected to be a routine journey towards Madrid, ended in a crash of glass and screeching brakes when a heavy goods vehicle collided with four cars. The violent impact left scenes of anguish with occupants trapped in their vehicles, while the food transported by the truck was scattered across the road.
At 3:44 PM, the silence of the highway was shattered at kilometer 399. Drivers who witnessed the event desperately called 112, describing a chaotic scene: a trailer loaded with provisions had run over several cars. Panic seized witnesses as they saw that the victims could not get out, with the doors deformed by the force of the impact, sealing the fate of the injured inside cabins reduced to scrap metal in a matter of seconds.
The intervention of emergency services was crucial. The Córdoba Firefighters worked intensely with cutting tools to free those trapped. Health personnel attended to the nine injured on the shoulder, and ambulances evacuated them while traffic was completely paralyzed, generating kilometers of queues and expressions of disbelief among other drivers.
“"We had to intervene to help those affected open the doors of their vehicles that had been blocked."
Official sources confirmed that the road suffered temporary closures to facilitate evacuation and the clearing of the truck's remains. Although traffic has now been fully restored, the trace of the incident remains in the memory of those who narrowly avoided the tragedy. Nine people have been marked by a second of fatality on a road that forgives no errors, with the cars reduced to twisted metal as silent testimony to an accident that has shaken the province.
