The piece, designed to resemble a ceramic tile, is notable for its predominant blue color, reminiscent of traditional Andalusian tiles. Its composition features two figures inspired by paintings by Julio Romero de Torres, as detailed by the creator during the presentation at the Juramento Church.
One of the central figures is a Cordoban woman wearing a mantilla, symbolizing the city of Córdoba. This allegory holds the image of San Rafael, the Custodian and Protector of the city, whom Córdoba raises as a banner and under whose protection it always shelters.
“"It is precisely Córdoba itself, represented in this female figure, who carries him and offers him for contemplation to the second figure in the composition: Father Roelas, to whom, according to tradition, the holy Archangel appeared."
This event commemorates the fifth appearance of the Archangel in the year 1578, when San Rafael swore by God that he would forever guard and protect the city of Córdoba. The procession on May 9th, which in 2026 falls on the closest Saturday to May 7th, celebrates this oath.
The poster's lower section features text announcing the San Rafael procession, using a typeface that mimics ancient ceramic signs and traditional lettering. The artist, a graduate in Fine Arts, expressed his honor in contributing this work, donated to the brotherhood, hoping it will endure as a historical testament to the city and its Holy Custodian.
