The Friends of Ategua Association has organized a new edition of ‘Las lunas de Ategua’, whose main activity will be the observation of the solar eclipse scheduled for next Wednesday, August 12th. The event will take place at the Ategua Archaeological Site, a location noted for its views.
Gabriel Duque, delegate for Culture of the provincial institution, explained that astronomy is the main focus of this annual event celebrating culture and archaeology. The Provincial Council is joining this initiative, which is part of the collaboration agreement between both entities and aims to highlight the archaeological site, declared a Site of Cultural Interest.
The eclipse observation will occur on the northwest side of the Ategua Archaeological Site, located 6 kilometers from the Cordoban neighborhood of Santa Cruz. This site, situated on a hill nearly 300 meters above sea level, offers a privileged view of the west, the cardinal point from which the eclipse will be observed.
The event will begin at 7:30 PM. Places are limited and free, requiring prior registration on the Friends of Ategua website (www.ategua.es). The association will provide a bus with 50 seats departing from Córdoba, and an additional 100 places are planned for those who travel by their own means to the meeting point on the access road to the Ategua Site.
The Friends of Ategua Association has published safety recommendations for the observation, warning of the risks of doing so without adequate equipment.
The agreement with the Provincial Council of Córdoba will continue through the last quarter of the year. A new edition of ‘Atardeceres de Ategua’ (Ategua Sunsets) is planned for October 17th, featuring a unique musical sunset near the medieval market wall, with the Orchestra de Plectro de Córdoba as the protagonist, commemorating Falla Year. Additionally, guided tours will be held in September, November, and December.
