The activity, led by Evangelina Becerra Rodero and Celestino Moreno Romea from IESA-CSIC, fostered a crucial debate on distinguishing between scientific error, exaggeration, misinterpretation, and intentional disinformation. Participants analyzed how scientific claims can be taken out of context and go viral.
Through a practical case study, attendees, divided into groups, explored current challenges in areas such as academic disinformation, study retractions, impact metrics, the use of social platforms, and the growing influence of artificial intelligence.
This event is part of the 'Science Courtyards' initiative, integrated into 'The European Researchers' Night'. The next micro-encounter, titled 'All This Used to Be Neighborhood', will take place on September 30th. The European Researchers' Night, held simultaneously in nearly 400 European cities, aims to bring science and its professionals closer to the general public in a fun and practical way.
Evangelina Becerra Rodero and Celestino Moreno Romea are participating in this initiative as contracted staff within the Generación D program, promoted by Red.es. This program, funded by the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan and the European Union's Next Generation funds, aims to attract and retain talent through scholarships and training contracts.
