The Diputación de Córdoba, via its Rafael Botí Foundation for Plastic Arts, has put forward Verónica Ruth Frías as a candidate for the 2026 National Plastic Arts Award. This decision stems from direct and continuous knowledge of the creator's career, as stated by the provincial institution's delegate for Culture, Gabriel Duque.
Duque recalled that Ruth Frías's connection with the Rafael Botí Foundation began in the early years of her artistic career and has spanned nearly two decades. This relationship has allowed for observation of the artist's evolution, who has developed a unique language through performance and visual arts, achieving national and international recognition.
Frías's career includes her participation in museums, art centers, universities, fairs, and festivals both within Spain and abroad. Her ability to move between action, photography, video, installation, dance, and object, along with the consolidation of a distinctive visual universe, marks significant moments in her career, according to Duque.
The president of the Botí Foundation also emphasized that the candidacy is based on the coherence and persistence of her artistic voice, rather than the accumulation of projects. For over twenty years, Frías has addressed fundamental questions about the representation of women, the construction of models based on their bodies, the determination of their value, and the right to occupy spaces.
Frías's work has circulated internationally, being presented in Europe, the United States, Mexico, Cuba, and Egypt. She has maintained a notable conceptual coherence, using her body and image to make visible aspects previously excluded from cultural narratives. Her feminist practice, developed through experience, humor, irony, vulnerability, and resistance, has contributed to generating new perspectives on contemporary womanhood.
From the Diputación de Córdoba, it is considered relevant that Frías has built her career by simultaneously asserting the right to be a woman, mother, and artist, integrating these dimensions into her creative work. The quality, intensity, and scope of her production, particularly during 2025, align with the award's criteria, which value outstanding and innovative contributions to Spanish cultural and artistic life.
Duque concluded that, with direct knowledge of her career from its early stages to its current consolidation, they propose Verónica Ruth Frías for the 2026 National Plastic Arts Award.
