The project's main objective is to test the advance of this invasive exotic species in the urban environment of Córdoba, evaluating the increase in specimens. This was explained by the president of the provincial institution, Salvador Fuentes, alongside the rector of the UCO, Manuel Torralbo, after signing the agreement.
Fuentes emphasized the importance of advancing the species' recognition capabilities to differentiate it from native wasps. The goal is to prevent the destruction of local species' specimens and nests, which are already harmed by the expansion of invasive ones.
The set objective is to quantify the presence of the Asian hornet to understand the scope of the problem and plan control strategies, including the development of trapping tasks.
The agreement also includes training beekeepers as "vigilance beacons," equipping them to identify, trap, and establish a control plan to ensure the viability of their operations.
It is expected to obtain an approximation of the real problem posed by the spread of the Asian hornet in the city, allowing for the design of a control strategy for the coming year.
Finally, this agreement will contribute to the generation of green employment, focused on training personnel for environmental surveillance and control of this species.
