The Provincial Council of Córdoba has reaffirmed its commitment to the performing arts and provincial cultural development by supporting the 25th Castro del Río Theater Showcase. The event will run from August 24th to 28th, strengthening its position as an essential fixture of summer evenings in the Guadajoz region.
Gabriel Duque, the provincial institution's delegate for Culture, highlighted that reaching the twenty-fifth edition is an "example of cultural dynamism in our province." He emphasized the Council's dedication to "initiatives that bring culture closer to towns and, in turn, act as a driving force for tourism and the local economy during the summer."
Duque integrated this scenic showcase into the Special Programs of the Culture Delegation, designed to promote characteristic projects with significant municipal impact.
Ana Rosa Ruz, provincial deputy and Councilor for Culture of the Castro del Río City Council, expressed pride in the event's growth. She noted the municipal objective to "improve the quality of the programming year after year" to meet the demand of residents and enthusiasts, aiming to "make theater an accessible and participatory activity."
The festival balances proposals from local and amateur theater companies with professional ones. The program has been carefully designed to offer variety, accommodating both the municipality's associative and educational fabric and theater companies with extensive experience.
The program will kick off on Monday, August 24th, with the Asociación de Mujeres Alameda del Guadajoz presenting the play El retorno de la Cantamora, directed by María García. On Tuesday, August 25th, the local talent will be showcased by the Municipal Theater School, directed by JL Márquez, performing La niña de Castro.
Midway through the festival, on Wednesday, August 26th, Cía. Pata Teatro will perform their adaptation of the classic Cyrano de Bergerac. On Thursday, August 27th, the company ‘A la sombrita…’ will present the visual and poetic spectacle Cuento de pocas luces. The closing event on Friday, August 28th, will feature La secta del Quijote by Cía. Antonio Campos.
All performances will take place at 9:30 PM in the unique setting of the Castle's Parade Ground. Tickets are affordably priced at 3 euros for adults and 1 euro for children.
