The Spanish lyrical work 'Marina', by Emilio Arrieta, will be the highlight of the year's final opera event organized by the IMAE. The production celebrates the anniversary of the Coro de Ópera de Córdoba, which will present two performances at the Gran Teatro.
Originally a zarzuela premiered in 1855, 'Marina' was transformed into an opera by Arrieta in 1871, becoming the first Spanish opera to premiere at the Teatro Real in Madrid. The libretto adaptation by Ramos Carrión achieved unprecedented success.
Soprano Alba Chantar will portray Marina, and tenor Santiago Vidal will play Jorge, a young couple secretly in love in a coastal town. The conflict arises with the advances of Pascual, interpreted by Julio Nomdedeu, a rough boatswain who also desires Marina.
The cast also includes Alonso Cano as Roque, Juan José Reifs as Captain Alberto, Isabel López as Teresa, and Antonio Mazzini as a sailor. The Orquesta de Córdoba, under the musical direction of Alejandro Muñoz, will accompany the staging.
Isabel Albás, president of the IMAE, emphasized that 'Marina' is a "great opportunity to approach lyrical art" and announced discounts for individuals over 65, young people up to 30, job seekers, people with disabilities, large families, single-parent families, and performing arts students and faculty.
