The University Pablo de Olavide will be able to undertake the renovation and safety works for the Flora Tristán residential complex thanks to a total of one million euros granted by the Provincial Council of Seville, as part of its extraordinary ‘Sevilla de 100’ plan.
The UPO has worked with the report from an external technical audit on the serious infrastructural defects of the property. The final technical report identifies structural deficiencies and outlines the necessary actions, of which 8 require very urgent intervention, 15 refer to major risks, and 16 to minor issues.

Given this situation, the UPO's Governing Council decided on June 22nd not to offer places in the residence until the works guaranteeing full safety, health, and habitability were completed. Rector Francisco Oliva has held meetings with various institutions to secure the necessary funding.
The Provincial Council of Seville will allocate the one million euros from the extraordinary ‘Sevilla de 100’ plan to the complete integral renovation of the residence. The President of the Provincial Council, Javier Fernández, indicated that a specific agreement for the financial transfers will be signed in September.

Rector Oliva attributed the lack of own resources to a structural deficit in the Andalusian university system, highlighting a real underfunding of public universities.
The renovation will begin on August 17th, and it is expected that two of its seven portals will be completed by October. The rest of the project will be carried out throughout the year so that, by the 2027/28 academic year, the residence can return to full operational capacity. The project aims to preserve a strategic university and social facility that facilitates access to higher education and develops a social intervention project in the Polígono Sur of Seville.
