The province of Seville is in the final stages of preparation for the traditional Rocío Pilgrimage. A total of 43 brotherhoods, out of the 127 affiliates of the Hermandad Matriz, will depart from various points in the province to join this significant pilgrimage.
The festive atmosphere is already palpable in numerous municipalities, where streets have been adorned with decorations and paper flowers. These will grace the passage of the Simpecado floats, which will bid farewell to their towns before embarking on the long journey.
The first brotherhoods to begin their journey will be those from Écija and Osuna, both scheduled to depart on Saturday, May 16. The Écija brotherhood will leave from the parish of Santa María Nuestra Señora around 10:00 AM, while the Osuna brotherhood will do so at the same time from the Convento de los Padres Carmelitas.
In the following days, other Sevillian brotherhoods will join the pilgrimage. Sunday, May 17, will see the departure of brotherhoods from Marchena, Carmona, El Viso del Alcor, and Tocina. On Monday, May 18, those from Morón de la Frontera, Lebrija, and Montequinto (Dos Hermanas) will set off. Tuesday, May 19, will feature a large group including Albaida del Aljarafe, Salteras, Utrera, La Algaba, Valencina de la Concepción, Isla Mayor, Coria del Río, Las Cabezas de San Juan, Olivares, Almensilla, San Juan de Aznalfarache, and Mairena del Alcor.
On Wednesday, May 20, departures will continue with brotherhoods from Dos Hermanas, Los Palacios y Villafranca, Huévar del Aljarafe, Gelves, Bollullos de la Mitación, Benacazón, Umbrete, Mairena del Aljarafe, Espartinas, Palomares del Río, Bormujos, Alcalá de Guadaíra, Gines, La Puebla del Río, and Aznalcázar. Finally, on Thursday, May 21, those from Sanlúcar la Mayor, Camas, Carrión de los Céspedes, and Villanueva del Ariscal will depart.
The last to embark on the journey will be the Hermandad de Villamanrique de la Condesa, which will do so on Friday, May 22, around 6:30 AM, after receiving thousands of pilgrims in its square. The pilgrims from Villamanrique will head towards the Raya Real and spend the night in Matagorda.
