Afternoon activity in Jerez's health centers will be concentrated this summer in four locations: three within the city and one in the rural area. Meanwhile, the University Hospital of Jerez will implement a vacation plan involving placing 20 beds "in reserve" and relocating departments like Digestive Medicine.
The plan, primarily active from June 29 to September 13, aims to ensure adequate coverage during the summer period and maintain urgent care. Hospital management states that hospitalization floors will remain open, with notable exceptions.
The Palliative Care Unit, with 14 beds, will be "in reserve" due to facility improvement works. The Digestive Medicine Unit will be temporarily moved to the Surgery floor. The "reserved" beds are distributed among Pneumology (8), Digestive Medicine (8), and Cardiology (4). The Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) and Urology floors will be closed as "contingency areas" during August.
In Cardiology, the activity in the hemodynamics rooms will be staggered, with only one room operational during July and August. The hospital's Outpatient Consultations building will maintain scheduled morning activities, closing afternoon services from July 16 to September 15, with the exception of Rehabilitation. Surgical activity will be concentrated in the mornings from July 15 to September 14.
In Primary Care, health centers will operate from 08:00 to 15:00. Afternoons will be centralized in four reference centers: San Benito (Jerez Centro, La Serrana), Jerez Sur (Montealegre, Madre de Dios), La Milagrosa (La Granja, Las Delicias), and La Barca-San José del Valle for the rural area. Continuous care emergencies (after 20:00) will be provided at La Milagrosa, Jerez Centro, and La Barca.
The Radiology service will operate only in the mornings at Jerez Centro and Jerez Sur from June 16 to September 15, with La Milagrosa being the only center with morning and afternoon radiological activity. Pediatric emergencies in the afternoon will be centralized at La Milagrosa, with additional staff reinforcement.
Rural clinics will limit their opening hours to mornings, with adjustments in locations like Gibalbín and Nueva Jarilla. Minor surgery will be available at La Milagrosa (July and August) and Jerez Sur (July and September).
The CSIF union criticizes the plan as an insufficient "copy-paste," denouncing a lack of transparency in hiring and staff overload. Francisco Velázquez, the union's spokesperson, highlights the need for a larger hospital to serve the area covered by Jerez and its coast.
