The Federation of European Biochemical Societies (FEBS) has launched the FEBS Research Academy, a new international body aimed at enhancing collaboration, innovation, and scientific excellence in the field of molecular life sciences. The academy has selected 100 world-renowned researchers as founding members.
Among the founding members is Prof. Irene Díaz-Moreno, affiliated with the Institute of Chemical Research (IIQ). This appointment represents a significant international recognition of her distinguished career and contributions to biochemistry and molecular biology.
The selection of founding members, confirmed by the FEBS Council, has brought together scientists from 24 countries. The academy boasts 28 Nobel laureates among its ranks, highlighting the high scientific caliber and global reach of this initiative.
Alongside Díaz-Moreno, three other researchers linked to the Spanish Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (SEBBM) are part of the Academy: Mariano Barbacid, as an honorary member, and Ángela Nieto and Alfonso Valencia, as full members. Díaz-Moreno's inclusion strengthens the presence of Spanish research on the international scientific stage.
The FEBS Research Academy aims to promote scientific excellence and innovation, foster international and interdisciplinary collaboration, support emerging generations of researchers, and contribute to addressing major societal challenges through scientific knowledge.
The official presentation of the Academy will take place during the FEBS Congress 2027, scheduled to be held in Riga, Latvia, from July 3rd to 7th.
