A virulent grass and scrub fire broke out early Saturday afternoon in Mairena del Aljarafe, leading to the evacuation of the Java urbanisation. The origin of the fire remains unknown, but it has become aggressive due to the large amount of dry grass and scrub accumulated in the area, especially after recent winter rains and in the context of high temperatures.
As reported by the mayor of Mairena del Aljarafe, Antonio Conde, the flames have spread rapidly through the areas of the Malala, El Almendral, and Java urbanisations. Residents of the latter were affected by the preventive evacuation due to the fire's proximity.
To combat the fire, two Firefighting Reinforcement Brigades and a Super Puma helicopter have been deployed. Emergencias Andalucía (Andalusia Emergency Services) has issued recommendations via social media for residents in case smoke reaches their homes, advising them to close windows and doors, pay special attention to the elderly, children, and individuals with respiratory problems, and even use masks if necessary.
The public is urged to avoid unnecessary travel in the fire area to ensure safety and facilitate the work of the emergency services in controlling and extinguishing the blaze.
