The President of the Provincial Council of Almería, José Antonio García Alcaina, visited Bacares to analyze joint projects, focusing on infrastructure improvements and historical heritage conservation.

The Provincial Council of Almería and the Bacares Town Hall evaluated joint projects planned for the municipality today. During the first institutional visit by the Council's president, José Antonio García Alcaina, to the Sierra de los Filabres, a working meeting was held with the mayor, Encarnación Zaguirre, and her government team.
Upcoming works under the Provincial Plans were discussed, including improvements to water supply, sanitation, and paving with an investment of €150,000. The aim is to modernize underground hydraulic infrastructure and restore paving in the urban center, focusing on streets such as Real, Mármol, and Revolcador for water supply, and Almendrillos street for sanitation, replacing deteriorated pipes.
The Provincial Council has allocated 250,000 euros for this four-year term, which will also fund the launch of a tourist-sports facility featuring a zip line and a recreational area. Concurrently, the project for the Municipal Roads Plan is being processed.
Another key project discussed was the conservation and enhancement of the Casa de los Obispos (Bishops' House), a 17th-century building of significant historical and cultural value. The Council has invested €70,000 for the initial phase of conservation, committing to continued funding for its complete restoration, which will make it a major tourist attraction for Bacares.
The Casa de los Obispos, acquired by the Bacares Town Hall in 2022, dates back to the 16th century with a reconstruction in the 17th century. Originally belonging to the bishopric, it retains original architectural elements such as its grand central staircase.
The visit concluded at the Cristo del Bosque (Christ of the Forest), a provincial pilgrimage site that recently held its religious ceremonies attended by thousands of devotees.
