The tourist neighborhood of El Toyo hosted a flamenco evening at the Plaza del Mar Amphitheater, as part of the 'Summer Nights' series. María Sorroche's show 'Flamenco atemporal' gathered an enthusiastic audience, highlighting respect for tradition and creative freedom.
The young singer, 23 years old and granddaughter of the cantaor José Sorroche, shared the stage with twelve artists, including singers, percussionists, guitarists, and pianists. Among them were Celia Jiménez, María Moreno ‘La del Molinero’, May López, Luz Cortés, Mar Tiago, Juan Fernández, Juan de Dios Santiago, Manuel Santiago, Raúl Campos, Rubén Heredia ‘El Pirri’, Joni Santiago, and Juan Santiago.
The event, organized by the Tourism, Communications, and City Promotion Area of the Almería City Council and produced by Contraportada and Asiento VIP, was presented by Emilia Álvarez, coordinator of 'Summer Nights in El Toyo'.
María Sorroche demonstrated great strength and sensitivity in her singing, creating a space for connection between different generations of Almerian flamenco. The artist performed her own compositions, showcasing her artistic identity and her ability to express emotions freely.
Soroche's training includes studies in Cartagena, Seville (Cristina Heeren Foundation), and currently at the Higher Conservatory of Music in Málaga. Her influences include flamenco legends such as La Perla de Cádiz, La Paquera de Jerez, Terremoto, and Antonio Mairena.
The night concluded with flamenco dance and an atmosphere of complicity between artists and the audience, celebrating flamenco as a living heritage that constantly evolves.
The 'Summer Nights in El Toyo' program will continue with events such as Traditional Games on August 18th, theater, and monologues.
