Since Monday, the University of Almería is hosting an international 'Study Abroad' program designed for Nursing and Dentistry students from the University of Al-Hadba in Iraq. This initiative, running until July 24, aims to promote academic and intercultural exchange, foster institutional internationalization, and enhance professional skill development.
The group consists of 10 students, 8 in Nursing and 2 in Dentistry, who will experience a complete immersion academically and socially. Lola Rueda, Vice-Dean of Communication and Strategic Planning, Teaching Innovation, and International Projection at the Faculty of Health Sciences, highlighted that the program's objective extends beyond the classroom, combining academic training with insights into the Andalusian healthcare system and cultural exchange.
The program, jointly organized by the Faculty of Health Sciences and the Vice-Rectorate for International Projection, is structured into two distinct blocks. The first week takes place at the Faculty, featuring theoretical-practical training delivered by its professors. Activities commenced on Monday, July 13, with a welcome and orientation session, followed by sessions on the emergency system, nursing care in emergencies, and nursing fundamentals.
Practical training intensified with sessions on neonatal and pediatric CPR updates and clinical algorithms, and a simulation workshop on neonatal care. The first academic week concludes with classes on psychology applied to patient care and health and well-being in nursing and health sciences, followed by a guided excursion to Granada to visit the Alhambra.
The second week will focus on direct contact with the reality and management of the Andalusian healthcare system. After a theoretical session on July 20 titled 'From Use to Abuse: Where is the Limit?', students will begin observational clinical visits to key healthcare centers in the province. These include Torrecárdenas University Hospital (July 21), Poniente Hospital in El Ejido (July 22), the Almería Health District (July 23), and Vithas Almería Hospital (July 24).
Through such programs, the University of Almería strengthens its international outreach, consolidating its position as a benchmark in practical clinical training and fostering international cooperation with institutions from the Middle East.
