The Almería Provincial Council has finalized the improvement of the Camino de los Chopos, an initiative that will allow residents of Tahal and Laroya to travel between the two municipalities without passing through Macael. The total investment amounted to €650,000 for resurfacing, roadbed improvement, and safety reinforcement along more than 8 kilometers.
This action addresses a long-standing demand and represents a significant attraction for rural tourism and the region's economic activity. The direct reconnection between Tahal and Laroya will facilitate daily work commutes and contribute to population retention in the area.
The president of the Council, José Antonio García Alcaina, accompanied by the special delegate for Sustainability, José Juan Martínez, and the mayors of Laroya, Dolores Moreno Sobrino, and Tahal, Trinidad Jiménez, visited the works. García Alcaina emphasized that this project is crucial for "equalizing opportunities and improving the connectivity and mobility of all 103 municipalities."
The mayor of Laroya highlighted that the project will shorten the round trip to Torrecárdenas by 36 kilometers, calling it "a dream come true thanks to the Council's support." Meanwhile, the mayor of Tahal stressed the importance of the connection for accessing scattered settlements with precarious access, contributing to population settlement.
Concurrently, the president made an institutional visit to Laroya to oversee other investments. The works on the new Medical Center, with a budget of €170,000, and the Bar-Museum Almazara, which has installed a new bioclimatic enclosure and pergola financed by the Council, were also visited.
