The province of Almería is under the impact of a severe heatwave, characterized by extremely warm nights that make rest difficult. Minimum temperatures recorded in many locations have ranged between 30 and 32 degrees, qualifying as 'infernal nights'. The Ametse station in Huércal de Almería registered the highest peak at 32.6 ºC, while daytime highs reached 40 ºC. In Torrecárdenas, the minimum was 31.5 ºC.
The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has maintained the orange alert for high temperatures in the Poniente and Capital areas, a situation that will continue until next Wednesday. Other towns such as Vícar (31.3 ºC), Viator (30.7 ºC), Albox (30.7 ºC), Pechina (30.2 ºC), and Benahadux (30.1 ºC) have also surpassed the 30 ºC mark during the night.
Regarding equatorial nights, those that do not drop below 25 ºC, they were recorded in Níjar (28.9 ºC), Roquetas de Mar (28.8 ºC), Rioja (28.4 ºC), Darrícal (27.7 ºC), and Uleila del Campo (27.5 ºC). The lowest temperatures were below 20 ºC in areas like Chercos, Laujar de Andarax, Cantoria, and Vélez-Rubio, with a low of 16.3 ºC in Cañada de Cañepla (María).
Maximum temperatures have well exceeded 40 degrees in several parts of the province. Benahadux recorded 42.2 ºC, closely followed by Gádor and Rioja, both at 41.3 ºC. Inland locations, Poniente, and the Capital also registered extreme values: Santa Fe de Mondújar (41 ºC), Alhabia (40.8 ºC), Viator (40.4 ºC), Pechina (40.2 ºC), and Huércal de Almería (40 ºC).
In the Levante almeriense, the sea breeze has offered slight relief, with maximum temperatures mostly not reaching 30 ºC. Spots like Bédar (29.9 ºC), Turrillas (29.7 ºC), and the coastal areas of Garrucha (29.3 ºC) and Vera (29 ºC) recorded more moderate values. The lowest minimums were observed at Calar Alto (24.1 ºC).
The Junta de Andalucía has activated the Coordination Protocol against the Effects of Excessive Temperatures on Health in response to this first major heatwave of the summer. It is recommended to avoid sun exposure during the central hours of the day and maintain adequate hydration. The orange alert for significant risk remains active in Almería until Wednesday, with an expected drop in temperatures starting Thursday.
