A strong storm hit Puebla de Don Fadrique on Friday afternoon, causing flooding in ground-floor homes and a wall collapse in the urban area. The downpour, which also affected the hamlet of Almaciles, registered up to 73 liters per square meter in two hours, according to data from the 'Suremet' fan network.
The force of the water led the Puebla de Don Fadrique City Council to activate the Local Emergency Plan. Together with the State Security Forces and Corps, the most affected areas were cleared to ensure safety. Cleaning and damage assessment work on infrastructure and rural roads will continue on Saturday.
The mayor, Jesús Fernández, publicly thanked the intervention of the Fire Department, Local Police, Civil Guard, the Road Conservation service, municipal workers, local companies, and volunteers, calling their actions fundamental.
The council will request aid from the Provincial Council of Granada, the Regional Government of Andalusia, and the Government of Spain to address the damages. The mayor also expressed his gratitude to the Deputy for Emergencies, Eduardo Martos, and the delegate of the Regional Government in Granada, Antonio Granados.
Meanwhile, a similar storm affected the surroundings of Alicún de Ortega, with heavy hail and flooding. The GR6101 road, connecting the town with the A92N, experienced water accumulation, although traffic information from the DGT indicates the road is now open.
