PP Aims to Revalidate Electoral Success in Guadix in Upcoming Andalusian Elections

The popular party secured 46.7% of the votes in 2022, a figure they will seek to maintain against their competitors.

The upcoming Andalusian elections on May 17 will test the ability of the Popular Party to maintain its dominance in Guadix, where in 2022 they achieved a remarkable 46.7% of the votes.

Citizens of Granada are once again called to the polls to elect their representatives to the Andalusian Parliament. On May 17, voters will be able to choose from among the 16 candidacies presented for this electoral event, in which the Popular Party is positioned as the main favorite.
This favoritism is based on the results of 2022, when the PP achieved a resounding victory in most municipalities in the province, including Guadix. In this locality, the party closed election night with 46.7% of the votes, marking its best record in regional elections this century.
The popular party's result in Guadix left the other formations at a considerable distance. The PSOE secured the support of 25.6% of the voters, while Vox consolidated itself as the third most voted force, reaching 15.7% of the votes.
Vox's performance in 2022 represented a significant improvement compared to the 2018 elections, when the party obtained only 10.9% of the votes and was the fourth force. On that occasion, Ciudadanos, which is not presenting a candidacy in the upcoming elections, achieved 15.2%, the PP 28.1%, and the PSOE 31.5%.
For its part, the PSOE experienced a decline in 2022 compared to 2015, the year in which it was the most voted force with 40.6%, compared to a Popular Party that obtained 33.6%. Four years earlier, in 2011, the roles were reversed, with the PP achieving victory with 44.9% of the votes and the PSOE 44%.
These historical figures reflect the dominance of both parties in the early decades of the century, both at the regional, local, and national levels. In 2008, 2004, and 2000, the PSOE led the results, followed by the PP, while Izquierda Unida and the Partido Andalucista alternated in third place, always below 5% of the votes.
