The Provincial Council of Granada has unveiled an ambitious initiative to transform the emblematic Castillo de La Calahorra into a vibrant cultural hub during the summer months. The program, running from June to September, aims to merge historical heritage with music and performing arts.
The offering includes a concert series throughout June and theatrical visits during the summer. According to the Council, the goal is to provide residents and tourists with "new ways to discover and enjoy one of the main references of the Spanish Renaissance," making the monument "a living space for culture."
María Vera, Deputy of Presidency, emphasized the institution's commitment to "energizing our heritage sites and bringing quality culture to all corners of the province." She highlighted the castle as an "exceptional stage" for the coexistence of history and contemporary artistic creation, aiming to "reinforce the cultural and tourist appeal of this area."
The June concert series will feature "three unique nights" with musical performances of "great artistic quality in an incomparable setting." It will open with pianist David Gómez and his show 'Piano Night by the Light of 200 Candles'. This will be followed by Álvaro Montes on June 18 with covers of well-known songs, and José Luis Jaén on June 25, dedicated to boleros and ballads.
The theatrical visits, directed by Myriam and Cristina Carrascosa, will take place from July to September. They will allow the public to learn about the castle's history through characters and reenactments. These visits will be conducted in small groups of 30 people and will be free of charge, though advance booking will be required.
The theatrical visit schedule will commence on July 4 with afternoon sessions. It will continue on July 25 and 26, and extend through August with sessions on the 1st and 22nd. In September, the final four performances will be held on the 5th, 6th, and 12th, concluding the summer offering.
