The Baza City Council has officially presented the details of the upcoming Fair and Festivals, to be held from September 6 to 15, with the opening speech on September 4.

The mayor of Baza, Pedro J. Ramos, accompanied by councilors José Gabriel López (Culture) and Mª Carmen Sánchez (Government), has revealed the main elements and shows of the city's Fair and Festivals, scheduled from September 6 to 15. The official opening speech will take place on Friday, September 4, followed by the Children's Cascamorras on September 5.
The mayor highlighted the early presentation to inform about the planned shows across various stages. "Before August ends, we will present the Official Program and provide details on the other aspects that make up this highly anticipated festive cycle for the people of Baza," he stated.
The official poster for the Fair is the work of Diego Gil, winner of a competition organized by the council. The collage-style composition includes references to Baza's iconic figures such as the Cascamorras, the Dama de Baza sculpture, the Virgen de la Piedad, and the main church.
This year's opening speaker will be Miguel José Ávalos González, a 45-year-old teacher and nature photographer, recognized for his deep connection to Baza, its traditions, culture, and heritage. The mayor described him as "a Baza native passionate about life and everything related to his city," emphasizing his involvement and concern for local needs.
Miguel J. Ávalos expressed his "deep pride in being from Baza" and his active link to the land, culture, and nature, mentioning his nature photography projects for conservation purposes in the Sierra de Baza. He announced that his speech will be an "emotional, honest, and profound look at Baza," enhanced with audiovisual material of his own creation.
The musical program includes the Urban Festival Baza on September 5 and "El Arrebato" concert on September 12 at the Alameda football field. The Caseta Municipal will feature free nightly orchestras, along with shows such as a Night of Flamenco and Copla (September 7), King África (September 8), Desirée (September 10), a Rock Night with "Reincidentes" and "U´Rock" (September 11), a Tribute Night (September 12), a Certamen de Coros Rocieros (September 13), and a tribute concert to Our Elders with Charo Reina (September 14).
The Dengra theater will host the zarzuela "El barbero de Sevilla" (September 7), the Orquesta de Laúdes "Velasco Villegas" (September 11), the theater group "Verea" performing "La cena de los idiotas" (September 12), and the family theater play "La Casita de Chocolate" (September 15), all free of charge.
For Children's Day (September 9), the free family show "Imagilusión" is scheduled at the Caseta Municipal. The Day for Elders (September 14) will feature a concert by Charo Reina and the Orquesta Brisa, with invitations required.
The bullfight on September 12 will feature Sebastián Castella, Víctor Hernández, and Curro Díaz, with bulls from Salvador Gavira.
The "Sports Fair" includes a 3X3 Basketball tournament (September 2), Handball (September 3), and the Cascamorras 4X4 Volleyball tournament (September 4) at the sports pavilion. On September 12, there will be a chess simultaneous exhibition with GM José Carlos Ibarra and the XX Open Dama de Baza Chess tournament.
The mayor concluded by emphasizing that the fair will offer "splendid shows for all ages and tastes, the vast majority of them free, with significant local participation and utilizing our municipal facilities."
