Socialist candidate María Jesús Montero visited Antequera, in the province of Málaga, where she stated that Andalusian citizens are demanding change and criticized the Popular Party's strategy of avoiding debate on political proposals.
During her visit to the Málaga town, Montero emphasized that the «best thermometer» to gauge public sentiment is direct contact with people. She pointed out that encounters with voters reveal concerns about delays in primary care, surgical waiting lists, and the lack of dependency aid, which, in her opinion, demonstrates a widespread desire for change in Andalusia.
“
"The best poll is the street. I am greeting many people who spontaneously approach to tell you that they will support you with their vote, to ask you or to tell you their testimony regarding delays in primary care, that they are awaiting surgery, or that dependency aid is not reaching them. That is the best thermometer of how the street feels, and the street is asking for a change in Andalusia."
The socialist candidate expressed her concern about the Popular Party's strategy of focusing the debate on possible pacts with Vox, instead of presenting concrete proposals. Montero regretted that citizens do not have the opportunity to learn about each party's programs, while she presents her plans for healthcare, public education, dependency, and housing.
Regarding healthcare, Montero defended the socialist management, recalling that during PSOE governments, the Andalusian health system was «successful», with advances in biomedical research and rights such as dignified death or free choice of hospital. She contrasted this situation with the current one, where, according to her, primary care appointments take an average of 12 days, compared to a maximum of two days during her tenure. She criticized Moreno Bonilla's management, whom she accuses of leading to privatization and system collapse, mentioning a recent delay in neonatal screening at the Hospital de Málaga.
“
"Citizens have memory and know that Andalusian healthcare during the socialist era was successful."
Regarding the controversy over the opening of a center for unaccompanied foreign minors in the Antequera Industrial Park, Montero criticized the «dehumanization» of these minors by Vox and the Popular Party, who, according to her, associate immigration with crime. She defended the need to locate these centers in appropriate places and recalled the unfulfilled promise of a new health center in Campillo Bajo since 2018.
Finally, Montero described as «absurd» the accusations of intentional delays in railway works or in the Antequera Civil Guard barracks, attributing them to the Popular Party's use of «lies and hoaxes» as a political tactic. She assured that the PSOE does not discriminate based on political color in its investments and lamented the constant confrontation of Moreno Bonilla's government with the Government of Spain.
