According to the mayor, this measure would decongest the A-45, enhance road safety, reduce travel times, and lower emissions from long traffic jams, in addition to alleviating the economic hardships currently faced by thousands of citizens.
Barón criticized the execution of the works, noting the lack of prior notice and alternative routes offered, and expressed surprise at the timing of these actions during the peak tourist season on the Costa del Sol.
As an alternative to full toll exemption, the mayor proposes an agreement between the Ministry of Public Works and the concessionaire company to establish a substantial toll reduction. A symbolic price of one euro is suggested to incentivize highway use and help distribute traffic.
The mayor emphasized the importance of preventing risky situations, warning that long queues on the A-45 could lead to accidents, while the fully operational AP-46 experiences much lighter traffic.
