The city of Antequera is preparing to commemorate a historical milestone: the 325th founding anniversary of the Cofradía del Consuelo. This event not only highlights the rich tradition of the locality but has also brought to light the career of a local artist, who was commissioned to present the commemorative poster.
The artwork, captured by photographer Raúl Pérez, features the Virgen del Consuelo as its central element, condensing over three centuries of the corporation's history into a single image. Beyond its artistic merit, the presentation served to emphasize the profound devotion that links the artist to the cofradía's patroness.
“"I wouldn't know when my devotion began, because the Virgin has always been in my life."
The artist confessed that his bond with the Virgin is a family legacy that has grown alongside his career. From his beginnings in the youth group to his current responsibility as dresser of the Sacred Image, his journey within the brotherhood has been constant and significant.
This personal connection is also reflected in his understanding of sacred art. In his workshop, where he produces imagery and designs for various brotherhoods across Andalucía, the artist conceives each work as an exercise that goes beyond mere aesthetics. He has emphasized the importance of spirituality and moments of intimacy and silence with the image as essential parts of his creative process.
The poster presentation event, which reviewed the cofradía's main historical milestones, thus became a reflection of the artist's dual dimension: creator and devotee. This duality also drives his growing influence in the cofrade sphere, where he combines the creation of works with patrimonial advisory roles for various brotherhoods. With new projects on his agenda, the artist views this anniversary as a bridge between past and present.
