The exhibition, promoted by the Alhama Sana Association (A-SANA) along with the Municipal Center for Information for Women, the Alhama City Council, and the Provincial Council of Granada, aims to make visible and honor the historical work of rural women from the municipality and its region, within the framework of the International Year of the Woman Farmer.
During the presentation, the commemorative nature of the project was emphasized. Councilor and provincial deputy, Ana Molina, highlighted the importance of recovering collective memory: 'Today, thanks to this display of photographs and tools that hold the memory of our roots, we give that effort the place it always deserved.'
Alina Magdalena Strong, exhibition manager for A-SANA, stressed the significance of these decades-long invisible labors, recalling that 'they were not great feats, they were small tasks repeated every day, but precisely those tasks sustained families, homes, and communities; that is the value of the everyday.'
The exhibition offers a social and ethnographic portrait through various thematic areas: domestic work, traditional trades, fieldwork, commercial activities, popular celebrations, and school life, recalling fundamental passages about the municipality's evolution during the 20th century.
The collection features 150 historical photographs, selected from an original archive of approximately 4,000 images, enhanced with household items and utensils donated by citizens. The images underwent technical restoration by Trini Ruiz Retamero (Fotosel).
The exhibition can be visited at the Galería del Carmen until October 9, during morning hours (10:00 AM to 2:00 PM). Guided tours are available for groups, local entities, and educational centers, by appointment via phone at 677 219 094 or email at alhamasana@gmail.com.
This initiative recognizes the generations of women who have structured rural life in Alhama, ensuring generational continuity and giving due value to their imprint on history.
