The protagonists of this sporting feat were Americans Kirk Livingston McKinney, 69, and Bruce Russell Storrs, 67, along with Briton Sarah Louise Poplar, 50. All three tackled the challenge without wetsuits, enduring water temperatures of approximately 22.2 degrees Celsius.
The expedition took a total of 4 hours and 54 minutes to cover the distance separating Tarifa from Punta Almansa on the Moroccan coast. The crossing was officially validated by the Strait Swimming Crossing Association (ACNEG), the governing body for such endeavors.
For American swimmer Bruce Russell Storrs, this journey held particular significance as it marked his fifth successful swim across the Strait between Spain and Morocco. Storrs overcame this latest challenge in the Strait's waters alongside his fellow swimmers, McKinney and Poplar.
