Vehicle circulation has been restored on the Levante maritime promenade in La Línea de la Concepción, following the completion of sanitation network improvement works. The project, carried out by the public company Agua y Residuos del Campo de Gibraltar (Arcgisa), affected the stretch between Avenida de la Banqueta and Calle Pavía, near the Castillito roundabout.
Although general traffic is now flowing along the promenade, the full turn at the Castillito roundabout remains temporarily restricted due to final finishing touches in that specific area, as indicated by the municipal Department of Urban Mobility.
The project involved the installation of a new large-capacity collector to replace the old infrastructure, which handles the wastewater flow from the entire southern sector of the municipality, covering the areas of Santiago-Conchal-Castillo, Huerta Fava, San Bernardo, and the city center. The intervention has also unblocked the discharge of wastewater from Avenida de la Banqueta towards the Levante Maritime Promenade (Paseo Mediterráneo), thereby ensuring its proper pumping to the wastewater treatment plant.
The work represented a total investment of 2.2 million euros, fully funded by the City Council of La Línea through its Municipal Land Heritage funds. The works, which began in early November 2024, experienced extended execution times due to complications arising from maritime storms and the technical difficulty of the intervention. These circumstances led to the preventive closure of the bathing area at the time, as indicated by the Territorial Delegation of Health and Consumption of the Junta de Andalucía, a restriction that has now been lifted after bathing was reauthorized along the entire local coastline.
