The City Council of La Línea de la Concepción has reported the measure, which affects the stretch between the Port of La Atunara and the vicinity of Pontevedra street. The detection occurred during an analytical control carried out on July 6, which registered a temporary exceedance of the Escherichia coli parameter.
In compliance with the received resolution, the council has immediately proceeded to mark the affected section with a yellow flag, advising users of the temporary recommendation to refrain from swimming while the measure is in effect.
In parallel, the company responsible for the sanitation service has been requested to provide an updated report on the checks and inspections carried out since the beginning of the season, as well as a new preventive review of the outfalls near the affected area. Visual inspections of these outfalls have not detected any discharge, a circumstance that has also been communicated to the Territorial Delegation of Health and Consumption, whose technicians confirmed the same result.
Currently, no clear cause has been identified to explain the analytical result. The administrations are continuing to work in coordination to determine the possible origin of this isolated alteration and adopt necessary measures. The City Council has clarified that the sanitation renovation works on the promenade are completed and operational, and there is no indication linking them to this incident.
The analysis registered a value of 620 CFU/100 ml of Escherichia coli. The Andalusian Bathing Water Health Surveillance Program establishes a temporary advisory against swimming from 500 CFU/100 ml and a prohibition from 1,000 CFU/100 ml. The measure adopted by the regional government follows the preventive protocol.
The Territorial Delegation of Health and Consumption will continue conducting analytical controls and will announce the lifting of the advisory once new results confirm the restoration of water quality within the established parameters. The City Council will collaborate with all competent administrations until the origin of the incident is clarified.
