During the mobilization, the group reiterated its call to close all CIEs in the country, defining them as "prisons for migrants," and focused on the Algeciras center, which they claim lacks logistical and operational sense.
The new CIE in Algeciras, operational since November 2025, was presented as Spain's largest migrant internment center, with a capacity for 507 beds and an investment of nearly 30 million euros. However, according to the Coordinator, its occupancy barely reaches 5% of its capacity in these initial months.
The collective argues that this situation contrasts with the lack of investment in the Campo de Gibraltar region in areas such as healthcare, education, public transport, and elder care. In their view, these priorities reflect migration control policies that divert public resources towards detention facilities.
The CIE No Cádiz Coordinator has insisted on the need to seek alternatives to the current model and has called for the space to be repurposed for other uses, considering the Algeciras CIE to be a "waste of public money and police resources."
