This initiative is part of the European Police Stations project, which the La Línea station joined in 2022. The presence of these international officers is in line with the Prüm Treaty, a multinational agreement allowing the temporary deployment of security force members within the territory of other signatory states.
During their stay, the foreign officers, who will wear their respective police uniforms and carry their service weapons, will be integrated into mixed patrols alongside National Police personnel. The aim is to provide direct assistance in the officers' native languages to citizens and tourists, particularly in areas of interest or during significant cultural events.
This joint operation seeks to strengthen prevention efforts and ensure prompt assistance to visitors. The European Police Stations project, launched in 2008 with a bilateral agreement with France, has expanded to include Portugal (2012), Italy (2014), Germany (2020), and the Netherlands (2022), establishing itself as a key tool for cross-border police cooperation.
