The analysis, which assesses the status of this strategic infrastructure for the Port of Algeciras, suggests that the section between Almeria and the French border could be operational between late 2028 and early 2029. However, uncertainty remains regarding the rest of the route.
Although 84% of the total infrastructure is currently under construction, only 36% is in service. The report's authors emphasize that the main challenge is no longer starting the work, but completing it and putting it into effective operation.
The lack of a definitive schedule is mainly due to the status of the Murcia-Cartagena and Almeria-Granada sections, which remain in the project phase. In the Andalusian section, work between Almeria and Granada is not expected to begin until 2027, while the Antequera-Algeciras route continues with partial works without a global completion date.
