This annual event, which attracts around 10,000 people, offers a unique opportunity to enjoy tradition, nature, and good weather in the Campo de Gibraltar. The celebration's epicenter will be the recreational area of La Montera del Torero, located in the heart of the Los Alcornocales Natural Park.
The pilgrimage will begin on Saturday, April 25 at 9:30 AM, departing from the Church of San Isidro. After a departure prayer and the blessing of banners and wheat ears, the pilgrims will start their journey. During the route, the Angelus will be recited at 12:00 PM, and a rest stop will be made at Venta El Frenazo, before resuming the march towards La Montera del Torero at 3:00 PM.
The return to the municipality is scheduled for Sunday, April 26, with departure from the recreational area at 4:00 PM and an estimated arrival in Los Barrios around 8:30 PM. This festivity is much more than a pilgrimage; it is a cultural manifestation where carts, horses, and the camaraderie among families and friends create an unparalleled atmosphere.
From the early hours of the day, the sound of firecrackers, the scent of rosemary, and the ringing of bells announce the start of an emotional day. The image of the saint, accompanied by a long line of pilgrims, traverses paths and trails, blending into the natural landscape. The history of this pilgrimage dates back to 1964, when a priest promoted its revival after discovering the ancient Brotherhood of San Isidro Labrador, founded in 1849. Since then, it has consolidated as one of the most significant celebrations in the local calendar, merging religion, culture, and nature.
