During their recent concert at Granada's Plaza de Toros, attended by over 12,000 people, the group La Plazuela took a moment to deliver a message of reflection on the protection of their city. One of its members, known as 'El Nitro', took the microphone to express his love for Granada and his concern about the changes it is undergoing.
Visibly affected, 'El Nitro' stated that "every time I come back, a fishmonger, a shoe shop... neighborhood businesses have closed." The artist used the attention of thousands of people to denounce the gentrification affecting Granada's neighborhoods, especially those where tourism has become predominant, mentioning the opening of franchises like KFC and 'cheesecake' chains.
This must have a purpose beyond music because we have to take care of the city.
The Granada-based band, which collaborated with the association Albayzín Habitable to highlight the situation, reiterated their commitment to their homeland and their concern about the transformation of the urban landscape and the life in the neighborhoods where they grew up. The intervention aimed to recall the reality awaiting outside the concert venue, a reality that has altered the daily life and identity of their neighborhoods.
