The competition to select the official image for the upcoming Algeciras Royal Fair, scheduled from June 20th to 27th, has concluded without a winner. The jury responsible for evaluating the submitted works decided to declare the contest void, deeming that none of the four proposals met the necessary requirements to visually represent the festival.
This decision, announced by the Deputy Mayor for Fairs and Festivals, Juana Cid, highlights the deliberation committee's high standards. The committee, comprising artist Pepe Barroso, professor Ana María Sánchez, representative of the Federation of Royal Fair Entities Farolillo Diego Castañeda, and municipal technician Eduardo Hidalgo, unanimously agreed on the inadequacy of the presented works.
Faced with the absence of a poster from the contest, the Algeciras City Council has opted to directly commission the design to the renowned local artist Marga Guinea. Guinea, born in Madrid in 1965 and a resident of Algeciras since childhood, is known for her distinctive collage style, characterized by contrasting colors, layered elements, and a contemporary perspective on classic imagery.
The situation, though unusual, underscores the commitment to maintaining a high standard for the visual identity of one of the city's most important celebrations. The jury's unanimous agreement to reject all entries demonstrates a preference for risking a void contest over selecting a poster without full conviction.
