The stoppages, which began on May 4, are scheduled for every Monday and Friday. If an agreement is not reached between the company and the workers, the situation could escalate to an indefinite strike starting from June 22.
The company Transportes Generales Comes is responsible for a significant portion of the regular interurban services of the Transport Consortium in the region, connecting towns such as Algeciras, La Línea, San Roque, Los Barrios, Tarifa, and Jimena. Additionally, it manages the Algeciras bus station and operates long-distance routes to Cádiz, Jerez, and Seville.
“"The company has set minimum services that they consider “manifestly illegal,” exceeding what was established by the Junta de Andalucía."
The Works Council has reported various irregularities in the established minimum services, including overlapping services, the inclusion of categories not covered by the official resolution, and the designation of standby personnel previously questioned by the Labor Inspectorate.
The labor dispute follows a failed mediation attempt on April 29 at the SERCLA, which concluded without an agreement. Workers' representatives state that the company has not resumed contact since then, despite their willingness to negotiate.
Beyond the minimum services, the staff has also expressed concern about an equality plan registered by the company without prior negotiation and a situation of wage discrimination affecting a portion of temporary employees.
The workers have apologized to users for any inconvenience, attributing the situation to the management's “lack of willingness to negotiate.” Interurban transport in the region faces a crucial week marked by uncertainty and mobilizations.
