The Ministry for Ecological Transition (Miteco) has granted aid totaling 70 million euros for the execution of 17 wind and hydroelectric repowering projects in Andalusia. This figure is a reduction from the provisional 89.6 million initially awarded to 24 Andalusian projects.
Wind repowering accounts for the majority of awarded projects, with ten initiatives compared to seven hydroelectric power plants. Specifically, wind farms channel 96% of the 70 million finally allocated in the autonomous community.
By province, Almería is the most benefited, receiving 24.7 million for four projects. It is followed by Málaga with 18.5 million, and Cádiz with 16.4 million. In the province of Cádiz, three projects in Tarifa have been awarded, while in Málaga, a single initiative concentrates all the funds.
The Los Llanos wind farm, operated by Naturgy in Casares (Málaga), is the most prominent beneficiary with 18.5 million euros for repowering its 34 megawatts (MW). The Tahivilla wind farm, owned by EDP Renovables in Tarifa (Cádiz), receives 8.1 million for its 31 MW installation.
The wind farms Carrascal I and Cerradilla I, owned by Olivento in Tíjola (Almería), share third place with 8 million each for their 50 MW capacity. Other benefited wind projects include El Sardón (El Granado, Huelva), Pasada de Tejeda (Tarifa, Cádiz), La Herrería (Tarifa), and Sierra del Trigo (Noalejo, Málaga).
Regarding hydroelectric power plants, Miller in Santiago-Pontones (Jaén) is the most benefited with 573 thousand euros for its 27 MW. It is closely followed by the Giribaile plant in Ibros (Jaén) with 560,000 euros for its 20 MW. Other benefited plants include Dílar (Granada), El Carpio (Córdoba), Nacimiento (Granada), Rumblar (Baños de la Encina, Jaén), and Jauja (Lucena, Córdoba).
Nine Andalusian wind farms and five hydroelectric power plants were excluded from the list of awardees, including some that were on the provisional list of beneficiaries.
Nationally, the Miteco has allocated 612 million euros to 173 projects for the renovation of wind farms and hydroelectric plants up to 50 MW across the country. These aids aim to boost the modernization of renewable energy infrastructure, adding 2,433 MW of wind power and 1,091 MW of hydroelectric power, resulting in an additional generation capacity of 3.5 GW. The total mobilized investment is close to 3.75 billion euros.
