The Secretary General of the PSOE of Cádiz and deputy, has highlighted the importance of the agreement reached between the European Union, the United Kingdom, Spain, and Gibraltar. According to his statements, this pact represents a “historic transformation” for the region, heralding a new era of shared prosperity for the area.
The visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation to the town of San Roque and the Campo de Gibraltar Chamber of Commerce served to reinforce the central executive's support. During his stay, the minister met with the business community and members of the municipal corporation, conveying his ministry's backing for the municipality and the entire region in relation to the future treaty.
“"To turn the area into a space of opportunities and understanding for more than 300,000 people united by family, social, and economic ties."
The agreement, scheduled to be implemented on July 15, includes the elimination of physical barriers and greater fluidity in the movement of people and goods. Additionally, a financial cohesion mechanism will be created, funded by the involved parties, to equalize labor rights and pensions for cross-border workers. The socialist representative emphasized that “we will not allow first and second-class workers”.
In this context, the Secretary General of the PSOE of Cádiz criticized the stance of the Popular Party and the President of the Junta de Andalucía, whom he accused of ambiguity regarding a crucial agreement for the region. He also questioned the position of other formations, such as Vox, for attempting to “torpedo” a pact that has the backing of the European Commission.
A socialist candidate for the Andalusian Parliament defended that the agreement is the result of effective policy based on dialogue with unions, businesses, and social agents, calling it “a success of politics with a capital P, one that listens to build a strong and united economy”.
