The union CCOO Campo de Gibraltar has called for a protest by union delegates on Tuesday, June 2nd, at 9:00 AM, at the entrances to the Social Courts of Algeciras. The mobilization coincides with the trial that will examine the actions of the company Aqualia in response to death threats received by an employee of the water supply service in La Línea de la Concepción.
The legal proceedings will analyze the company's potential responsibilities for its alleged inaction in the face of threats, as well as the consequences this situation may have had on the employee's health and occupational safety. The events date back to 2023, when several Aqualia workers were subjected to threats, particularly an operator who had participated in a water supply cut in the line of duty.
CCOO states that it repeatedly requested the company's management to adopt specific measures to ensure the safety of the staff, but claims the company turned a "deaf ear" to the proposals. The union recalls that the affected worker has been on extended medical leave and has not yet fully recovered.
Among the reported incidents are the vandalism of a company vehicle in La Línea and the appearance of threatening graffiti. According to the union, these events exacerbated the situation and triggered a psychotic episode in the employee. The union asserts that Aqualia's management has not fulfilled its obligations regarding health and safety at work.
CCOO believes that the company's lack of response directly contributed to the deterioration of the worker's health, which is why the case has ended up in court.
