During a visit to La Línea de la Concepción, the Andalusian leader emphasized the urgency of adopting strategic measures in the short and medium term to capitalize on the vast potential of this region. He insisted that future decisions must benefit both the municipalities of the region and their inhabitants.
“"Right now, it is true that we have a crossroads for the future in this region for all of Andalusia."
In this context, he expressed his dissatisfaction with the limited involvement of the central government in the progress of the Campo de Gibraltar, describing its attitude as “abandonment or lack of interest.” He lamented the absence of a more active presence from the General State Administration.
The Andalusian leader highlighted that current problems are not new, but warned that they could worsen due to the uncertainty surrounding the Brexit agreement between the European Union and the United Kingdom regarding Gibraltar. He demanded greater involvement of Andalusia in the negotiation process, arguing that the Junta can offer a local perspective against decisions made from Madrid without a deep understanding of the region's peculiarities.
Furthermore, he advocated that the future agreement must ensure equal conditions for the citizens of La Línea and the Campo de Gibraltar, seeking to normalize their daily lives without disadvantages compared to the British colony. He reiterated the request to establish a special economic zone for the region, a demand shared by institutions, entrepreneurs, and residents, and urged the central government to listen to the affected municipalities.
The Andalusian president linked these demands to the strategic role of industry in the regional economy, highlighting Andalusia's industrial growth and the potential of the Campo de Gibraltar as an “energy spearhead” in the development of green hydrogen. However, he warned that the lack of investment in the electricity grid could limit this planned growth.
Finally, he questioned the lack of progress in the comprehensive plan for the Campo de Gibraltar, endowed with 1,000 million euros, and mentioned the absence of improvements in key infrastructures such as the railway, the duplication of the N-IV, or the improvement of the N-340 in the Algeciras section. He called for institutional collaboration to harness the region's potential.
