The organizers of the Algeciras Port Popular Race have decided to modify the date and time for its XXIV edition, scheduled for 2026. The event will move from the traditional Viernes de Farolillos to Saturday, June 13, with the main race starting at 9:30 PM. This decision primarily aims to avoid the hottest hours of the day and reduce traffic problems in Algeciras during the hectic Viernes de Farolillos of the Feria Real.
The new schedule will allow junior categories to start running in the late afternoon, benefiting from milder temperatures. In addition to the programming changes, the race features a revamped 7.2-kilometer route, starting and finishing at Llano Amarillo. This urban course will include iconic streets of Algeciras such as Regino Martínez and the newly inaugurated pedestrian promenade of Capitán Ontañón.
Another novelty in this edition is the inclusion of new categories for veteran athletes, recognizing the dedication of participants who have been present since the first edition. The M60 category will now encompass runners aged 60 to 64, with the addition of M65 (for ages 65 to 69) and M70 (for athletes aged 70 and above) categories.
As in every edition, each participant will receive a technical shirt with an innovative design when collecting their bib number. Furthermore, the gifts for all finishers have been improved, thanks to the collaboration of the event's sponsors. This year's solidarity bib will support the Apropadis 2.0 Association, dedicated to promoting the participation of people with disabilities.
