The property, once home to the Bingo Casablanca and previously the Magallanes cinemas, as well as nightclubs like Sonora, will reopen its doors in Algeciras' Plaza de la Constitución. After remaining closed since 2018, the over 1,200 square meter space is now undergoing a transformation to house a new Dia supermarket.
The first adaptation works have already begun on the building, which had a long history of leisure and entertainment in the city. The Magallanes cinemas operated from 1987 to 1999, and later the property housed the Monte Cassino casino and the Bingo Casablanca. Subsequently, it became the Esenzia and Sonora nightclubs, the latter closing in 2018.
The reopening as a supermarket will put an end to nearly a decade of inactivity in this emblematic venue. The transformation aims to bring commercial activity back to a space historically linked to Algeciras' leisure scene.
