The Feria Real in Algeciras saw the largest increase, collecting 18,800 kilograms of glass, a 14.1% rise compared to the 16,480 kilograms recorded in 2025. This upward trend confirms the growing effectiveness of selective collection during the celebrations.
Meanwhile, the Velada y Fiestas in La Línea facilitated the recovery of 5,760 kilograms of glass, maintaining a significant recycling volume in line with the activity generated during the festive days.
The combined total from both environmental initiatives reaches 24,560 kilograms, an 8.5% increase from the 22,640 kilograms last year. This growth highlights the increasing participation of the hospitality sector in separating glass containers.
These figures are the result of a special operation coordinated by the Mancomunidad de Municipios del Campo de Gibraltar, ARCGISA, and Ecovidrio, in collaboration with the city councils of Algeciras and La Línea. In Algeciras, 12 containers specifically for hospitality were installed, 90 wheeled bins of 120 liters were distributed, and an extraordinary door-to-door collection service was maintained.
In La Línea, the campaign involved all stalls and hospitality establishments, with the distribution of over 50 bins and daily door-to-door collection starting at 6:00 AM. Prior information was provided to stallholders and professionals to facilitate container separation.
The hospitality sector plays a crucial role in these campaigns, accounting for approximately half of glass container consumption. Recovering this material allows it to be reintroduced into the production process as cullet, reducing the need for raw materials, energy consumption, and CO₂ emissions.
The regional institution, ARCGISA, and Ecovidrio have expressed gratitude to the city councils, stallholders, hospitality professionals, and workers involved. Their collaboration has been essential for improving waste management during the celebrations, promoting a more sustainable model and more responsible festivals that respect the environment.
