This proposal, already present in over 160 Spanish towns, aims to bring local heritage closer to children through a hybrid experience. It combines a web application with physical materials, encouraging direct observation of the surroundings and reducing exclusive reliance on screens.
The Marco Topo system is intuitive: families receive a physical map and stickers. By entering a code on the marcotopo.com website, game characters guide children through a self-guided tour, where they must solve challenges and puzzles at each point of interest.
The project in Baena is structured into three main routes that explore the territory's diversity. The first, “The Historic Quarter: Of Legends and Olive Trees,” covers the heart of the city, including the Church of Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe (16th century), the Olive Oil Museum, and the Archaeological Museum. The second route, “Torreparedones: Journey to Ancient Rome and Iberia,” takes families to one of Andalusia's most important archaeological sites, with stops at the Eastern Baths, the Roman Forum, and the Baker's House. Finally, the Albendín route highlights hydraulic tradition and nature, featuring the traditional wooden waterwheel and the Vadofresno Saltworks, culminating at the Vadomojón reservoir.
“"This tool is not only designed for families but also for educational centers and curious visitors seeking an emotional and active connection with the territory, turning cultural visits into unforgettable memories for children."
With the implementation of Marco Topo, Baena aims to consolidate its position as a benchmark for inland tourism in Andalusia, showcasing its monumental, natural, and gastronomic resources, with a special focus on olive oil tourism, in an enjoyable and participatory way.
