The Baena City Council has presented a series of improvement works in the Ladera Sur area, the Tinte neighborhood, and the Senda Ancha surroundings. The main intervention has been the renovation of the sanitation collector connecting La Almedina with the treatment plant. This project, with an investment close to 50,000 euros, is already completed and aims to prevent the flooding and discharge problems that affected residents' homes.
The mayor, María Jesús Serrano, explained that there was a "serious structural problem in the Tinte collector, which was silted up, with insufficient diameter and a slope that favored sediment accumulation." She detailed that this situation caused homes to be flooded with sewage and wastewater during intense rainfall episodes.
During the works, the initial plan had to be modified due to interferences with telecommunications infrastructure and power lines. New manholes were incorporated, and the collector's diameter was increased to improve evacuation capacity and prevent blockages.
The mayor emphasized that this action demonstrates "the commitment of the government team to all neighborhoods of Baena." She highlighted that it is a "non-visible but absolutely necessary" work for environmental sustainability and service equality among residents.
For his part, the councilor for the Historic Center and Parks and Gardens, David Bazuelo, noted that the intervention represents "the largest investment in the Tinte area in the last eight years, excluding previous PFEA actions." The goal is to "put the neighborhood into use" and recover degraded spaces.
The councilor announced a new project for the area next to El Salvador church, which includes the demolition of municipal properties in ruins, the creation of a stepped area, and garden spaces. Municipal plots on various streets are also being recovered to transform them into useful spaces, including parking areas.
Regarding the hillside project, cleaning and clearing work is progressing thanks to the Emplea Verde program. Cleaning is expected to be completed in the first half of June, followed by tree planting in the autumn, with the involvement of the city's educational centers.
